      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

  1. We have a group of five that have settled on the last week of Sept. We've been happy with that slot, crowds, prices, etc. We've done well with the fish then, especially this past year. We also do the first week of June. Always better weather and we camp for that trip, but I like the fall trip better, not as many fish, but definately bigger fish.
  2. Glad you like the reel, I'm jealous. Definatly above my allowance though. Zebco push button 33 all the way to my next 50 #er :o
  3. Thanks for sharing that.
  4. Bob, is that a Van Stahl? What do you think? Are you glad you dropped the $? At the end of the day what is the real value in your mind? By the way, the answer at the end of the day can be, 'it just feels good to own one'. I know I would (I think).
  5. Me too, (I think). Some might still debate that though.
  6. Bob, hope you're doing well. Happy Birthday!
  7. Nice fish, good job!
  8. Fished the canal a couple of weeks ago and did real well in the middle of the night.
  9. OK, you talked me into it. Just a reply to keep me on the board. Hope everyone is doing well. Boy o'boy, what a great fishing trip to the Cape two weeks ago, we slammed really big striphas on Billingsgate with fresh chunk bunker. Got to see Onshore, he's doing well and it was good to visit for a while. He was a big help and as always enjoyed getting into the 'Hook Up'. The folks are really helpful there. Had to buy some more t-shirts to replace the old worn out ones.
  10. Does anyone know what's going on with all of the stuff (crap) on the site. Has anyone ever clicked on a link and what happened?
  11. Think courtesy patrol!
  12. One of the guys from the site is down from this worm, neither of us know much with computers. He is only getting a blue screen when he starts his computer. Would someone help walk us through what to do to get him back running? Thanks!
  13. Funny you mention this. I bought one four weeks ago on ebay for $80.00, used two times. It looks and works as brand new. Living on the Delaware river I have probably 50 outings on it so far with about 40 stripers. Three over 30 pounds, the biggest 38#, around 15 in the 20# class, the rest in the teens. Only three fish under 10#'s. I'm throwing 12lb mono and the reel has been perfectly sweet through this run. Good choice for a reel in my opinion.
  14. The other hot topic was the Kayak fishing tournament off Long Island. Jamaica Bay I believe. They are having this again this year and it is apparently quite an event. Hundreds of yaks will fish the tourny for Bass, Bluefish, or Weakfish (around Jersey they refer to the Weakfish as a Linesider). Anyway, big event and some of the yak guys on this site went up against the Long Island bunch. I don't remember the results though. I think the fishing was thin all in all when they had there trip.
  15. Chris, I was in Fla. one year and a guy was catching a lot of Snook on them. It funny you mention these because I just bought three packs for the Turks/Caicos trip. I keep looking at them and think of trying for the stripers. By the way, on one small one this morning, maybe 26/27". Heading to the upper Chesapeake in an hour. Big bass on the flats with luck. See ya!
