      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

  1. Great, thanks for the advice everyone
  2. Hello all, So I'm thinking about asking Santa for a new pair of waders. Any suggestions out there? Should I go with neoprene? Insulated or no? Most of my fishing is done in the surf from May to October. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
  3. Great guys, thanks for the tips. Will report back on how it goes
  4. I'm heading to Plum Island for the first time Wednesday night. Any suggestions that people out there can give me? I normally chuck worms, but should I try something else? Any help would be appreciated, thanks
  5. Back on this board for the first time in a while. Actually just moved to Salem over Memorial Day weekend, finally had enough of the city. bcyr22 you have any other general spots that are productive up here? I'm looking to get out this weekend after the rents bring up my gear from the Cape on Saturday.
  6. How cheap are you talking? I have a Wilderness Systems Pungo 120, used about half a dozen times since I bought it in the summer of 2006. It's in GREAT shape. I'll throw in an Aqua Bound aluminum paddle and EMS lifevest, looking to get $500 for everything.
  7. i saw that last night. unbelievable, broke the old record by almost 300 pounds!
  8. nice work, yet to snag my first keepah but anyday now.....
  9. nice, thanks for the report
  10. HA, the look on that kid's face is priceless
  11. Made it out today (Mother's Day) for the first time this year. Fished about three hours before high tide, 15 schoolies, all in the 12-18" range, some nice and fat. Chucked seaworms 'til I ran out, then had 'em hitting the storm shad. A few other guys on the beach, all catching fish. I think they would've taken almost anything you threw at them. Windy as hell, had to wait a couple minutes between casts for the wind to die down enough to get a decent cast, but all in all a good start to the season!
  12. I couldn't agree more. Made the switch to Firefox about six months ago and was nervous at first but it's great. Blocks all pop-ups, saves password information, etc.
  13. I fished Chatham a couple times early last season and had some pretty good luck. Did the beach pull back that much later in the year.? I'm heading down this weekend and had a few different spots I was considering, Chatham being one of them....
  14. Check out this link http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/dfwhandi.htm Also there is a commercial pier in Wychmere Harbor in Harwich (should be ok anytime after 7 or so after the boats have unloaded). I've seen people haul in schoolies here just dunking bait.
  15. i think surfrat's got some competition
