      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

  1. Scary stuff!!! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8014354858921252855
  2. Anyone see this story or have more details? http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/...nce_set_a_trap/ I hope they get the maximum fines and it would be nice to see them serve time!!
  3. I motored down the Anisquam on Sat. and had a half dozen fly around me. Only one got a bite in though!!
  4. Congratulations Zebrina! Though we've never met, I can see that you've "mothered" this site quite nicely, so I'm sure your daughter is in fabulous hands!! Best wishes!! -Chris
  5. Great link Surf Rat! That's my idea of "must see TV"!!!
  6. Thanks for the tip! I've used the storms, but never the super fluke. What sizes do you like (do they only come in 5"?), and what type of jig head do you use (ie. any particular shape)??
  7. Thanks for the website ccbay. I had taken a look at it, but I also wanted to see if I could get some first hand comments from people familiar with the club. Tight Lines, Chris
  8. Can anyone give me any info about the Cape Ann Sportsmens Club? I'm new to Gloucester, and am considering applying to join. I guess the sort of info I'm looking for is stuff like how many members do they have, how active are they, do they have special events other than the monthly meetings, is the focus more hunting/shooting or fishing or a good mix of both. I'm also writing to them for some membership info, so I'll ask them same questions, but I just wanted to see if anyone here had any info. Thanks in advance, Chris
  9. Ogg, There is a nice boat launch on the Anisquam River right behind Gloucester High School (off Centenial Ave). There's a $5 fee to use the ramp, but I'm not sure if you'd get chaged where you've just got a kayak. Also, right along Stacy Boulevard you can launch a hand carried boat (the end of the Boulevard opposite the Cut Bridge. I bet that you could also launch from Good Harbor beach and have quick access to the Bass Rocks area, but that would mean you'd have to carry your kayak 100-200 yards depending upon the tides. Tight Lines!! -Chris
  10. Thanks guys. I grew up in central Maine (just north of Lewiston/Auburn), went to college in New Hampshire, rented in Boston for 3 years, moved to Barre, Mass for a couple years, then I finally snagged a better half and moved to Gloucester.... whew... I really fell in love with the area when I'd come up from Boston to go out cod fishing with the Yankee Fleet.
  11. Hello everyone, Just thought I'd write up a quick post to introduce myself... I moved to Gloucester a couple months ago and finally feel like I'm getting settled in. I've been out fishing a few times, and had some luck with the blues a few weeks ago. I'm really glad I found this board, as it seems to have the most people posting from the north shore/cape ann area. I'll definitely do my part to contribute, even though I don't get out as often as I'd like. Thanks for making this a great site!, -Chris
