      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

  1. I got out Friday night for my very first time. North end of Plum Island at low tide. I didn't catch a thing, but I had the greatest time being out there working on my casting. Got a little better as the night went on and didn't try to cast past my abilities. I got the bug!!
  2. Sending email to blu_h20@msn.com through my personal email account and it's not getting through. I would like to meet you tonight at Captain's Dock (I'll find it) on Plum Island- 6 pm. If you get this, send me an email to confirm that this is still a good time. Thanks -looking forward to it. Don
  3. Sent you an email but it came back undeliverable. Not sure what's up. Regarding equipment - I got a 9 wt. fast action fly rod by Scientific Anglers off of ebay. Brand new and looks like a nice rod. My line is WF-9F. I'm not that frustrated right now - I'm just a beginner, but I would like to take you up on the offer of some instruction. I can meet you on PI (name the place - I'm new to the area) tonight or tomorrow night, whichever time is good for you. It would be good to get some helpful saltwater fishing tips in general. Thanks,
  4. I practiced casting for the first time in my backyard yesterday. I was able to get the line out about 30 feet. Any longer and it was just a mess. Any suggestions on how I can increase the length of my casts? What should I be working on?
  5. I got a WF-9F line. I plan on putting everything together this week (backing, line, etc.) and practicing some casts somewhere before I get out a fish for real.
  6. I got my equipment - 9' rod, 9# line and some flies - but I really need some help getting started. Anyone interested in providing some instruction please let me know. Where to go, when to go, and a lot of how-to. I'm a quick learner, so I shouldn't be too frustrating. Email me and let me know where and when to meet you and I will bring the food and drink. Thanks.
