      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

  1. NH Dad: All the spots mentioned in this month's On The Water work very well especially at this time of the year, some better than others depending upon day, wind and tides. Without doing any "Spot Burning", try the ones with rocks first - just be careful and considerate where you park. If you need more info, pm me.
  2. Interesting place to try if you haven't already done so is Joppa Flats on the outgoing - early sunrise or late sunset
  3. IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE SEASON GOING, TAKE A RIDE TO RHODE ISLAND AS OF YESTERDAY, SCHOOLIES STILL BEING TAKEN FROM THE BREACHWAY.
  4. JIM, ANOTHER GOOD JOB! IT WILL BE COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT I CAN RE-PLAY THIS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER WHEN I GET CABIN FEVER.
  5. Check your mail. I'm sending you directions to a few spots in RI that I've been hitting and will continue to hit through the next few weeks. I didn't get any mail? Bob , My PC locked up I'm trying again
  6. Check your mail. I'm sending you directions to a few spots in RI that I've been hitting and will continue to hit through the next few weeks.
  7. was it a 50 " aluminum sandspike by Angler's Fish-N-Mate? http://rodrack.com/home.php?cat=252 the top has a black plastic collar If it was, Surfland sells them for about $22.00 or you can order direct from the Angler's Fish-N-Mate web site
  8. Bob, that's it. thanks
  9. Where are the pics? Nobody catches a 50 without pics??????????????????? It's just lucky my son was with me. He was the measurer and the photographer. It's hard to take photos when you're all alone. Photo posted on the Red Top web site. http://www.redtoptackle.com/ click on photo
  10. This cow I caught was at Plum Island, Lot #3 on Sunday 10/29 just at the crack of dawn. That friday 10/26 at night on the canal I caught two 38" - all were released at both locations so you guys can all have a turn at them.
  11. REGARDING THE COW, THANKS IT WAS ONE GREAT FISH. NEXT TIME I SEE YOU I'LL SHOW YOU THE PICS LATE NOW BUT YOUR IDEA REGARDING EXCHANGING CELL PHONE NUMBERS IS GOOD. I'M FISHING DURING THE SEASON BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN PI AND THE CAPE BUT I'LL PARTICIPATE.
  12. that 49 inch fish weighed 50 pounds? I think I am pretty much all done for the season other than maybe a day trip to RI BOB, THE BELLY ON THAT COW WAS SO FAT AND AS MY SON WAS MEASURING HER AND WEIGHING HER WE NOTICED THAT WHATEVER SHE JUST ATE WAS STILL MOVING INSIDE HER. I'VE CAUGHT LONG ONES AND CALLED THEM RACERS BUT THIS WAS ONE FAT BELLIED COW. I REVIED HER AND PUT HER BACK SO GET BACK OUT THERE AND CATCH HER AGAIN.
  13. After catching a fifty pounder last sunday I'm ready to try for a sixty pounder this weekend (I really don't think that will happen but then you never know). Like Bob says, "You don't know if you don't go". I don't think the weather will be with us - sounds like some wind will be blowing real strong out of the east ( WCVB channel 5 is saying northeast winds 10 to 20 mph - maybe stonger.) .
  14. Bob & Jim, I went solo to the cape Friday and did pretty good. My son and I were at PI both yesterday and today at lot #3. Didn't do well in the rain and fog yesterday but today wasn't to bad for me At the crack of dawn today I caught one that was 48" (nose to tip of tail) in length and 26" girth. One fat fish that took a little while to bring in. I was using; a custom one piece Lamiglas Super Surf, spinning a Daiwa Saltiga Surf 5000, spinning 30 pound Power Pro dark green braid 40 lb fluorocarbon leader w/ a Duolock Al Gag's all black Pocket Rocket I was not using a boat As the morning got going the wind really picked up and made the beach nasty with the sand blowing around. If I knew how to send a photo I would share it with you
  15. How many did you end up with before you knocked off today? I measured each one of the critters and didn't have any smaller than 28". Didn't hook any schoolies. It was amazing until the seals moved in.
