      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

  1. Fished the outgoing Friday AM slow for first couple of hours Fish turned on in last 2 hours of outgoing Caught 4 on mac chunks, largest 27" lots of boats around us all doing nothing for the morning, and then everyone catching at the same time. Good luck out there...
  2. Nice report. Wish I was there. We stayed up the lake (Northwood Lake) and did the pontoon boat trolling Krocodile spoons while entertaing family and friends. Several Smallmouth, best one being about 2 lbs - probably the same size as your bait! Going this weekend for Cod and Haddock for a while, then troll around for Tuna. Usually get some blues this time of year as we are trolling back in.
  3. Welcome back and thanks for addressing the issues. This site has a good crew, interested in sharing ideas, successes and skunks as well. Glad to see the effort to keep the site going.
  4. At least you got out - its been weeks for me, and probably will be several more weeks. Need to reset my priorities.
  5. I've caught big stripers and blue fish on Tube and Worm on leadcore. Barracuda love em too, but we don't get many Barracuda up here - except my Mother in Law but that's another story
  6. Went to Bar Harbor, casted from shore for about an hour at 2 different spots - no fish. Wasn't sure what I would get, since the water temp is so much colder than here. Did go Sea Kayaking with wifey, first time, lot of fun. She told me she was buying me one for my birthday, set up for fishing, but wanted us to try it first. Certainly can see me using one for fishing, although not too sure about using it in the river when the current is running - may end up out past the MR buoy somewhere
  7. Cat Thanks for the post, although for some reason I can't view your pictures. May be the firewall at work. Anyway, nothing like native brookies. They are spectacular. To think a fish smaller than what we use for striper bait can be so much fun, well it just goes to show us how fishing is more a lifestyle than a sport.
  8. Went Sunday morning - fog was ridiculous. Caught 2 keepers on chunk mac's. Fog lifted eventually - trolled out past the MR buoy for a while - Nada
  9. Nice fish - snuggled in with the Bud's... What did you get it on?
  10. I'm going Sunday. Plan to jig up macks at breaking rocks, and troll them out past the MR buoy. Probably go deep with wire and downriggers
  11. yeah - the site activity sure has slowed. Actually, the site was down for several days, looked like it had closed for good. I'm guessing some of the regulars tried to log in several times like I did, and have given up on surfcaster.com. I hope not, since there were plenty of good stories, pictures, fishing ideas, etc... Good luck - the striper fishing seems to have slowed down as much as the website...
  12. First 40" of the season - weighed about 27lbs. Inhaled a pretty good size mackeral that we were trolling between the MR buoy and the the mouth. Water temp was mid 60's, air temp was about 100. Boat speed was about 1.5 knots - barely in gear...
  13. Nice fish - looks like after that long cast it hit pretty close to shore...
  14. Hey Surf I hear you...haven't had much time this season either. I hear the flounder fishing has been rather good - reports of people catching their limits. Need to get out... I'm with you guys - just haven't been able to get out - vacation the week of the 4th, plan to go once or twice that week - hopefully grab some tinkers and live line them. Nice report ag1 - glad to hear someone is out Me - I need to go FISHING...
  15. Yesterday at around 7 PM, next in line to pull the boat at Cashmans. 4 guys in a boat come blowing in - let us go next, we have no reverse. "Sure - go ahead" Dead low, no current - they slam into the dock and 2 guys roll out of the boat onto the dock. No injuries... they go get the truck, back into the ramp, shut the truck off, and load the boat on the trailer. Yep, of course, the truck won't restart. They open the hood, and start spraying (must have been ether) into the carb, take a screwdriver from the boat, crank the ignition for about 5 minutes. No luck. At this point, boats are lining up waiting to launch or waiting to leave. I'm thinking the truck wil have to get pulled out of there, and that side of the boat ramp is out of commision for a quite a while when finally a small explosion goes off and sure enough the truck starts. They all high five, and finally pull the boat out. And let the weekend at Cashmans begin ...
