      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

  8. I hope you know that you can get grass shrimp just about any estuary on the massachusetts coastline. matter of fact you can catch them in any inlet. Just get a fine mess net and scope around during the night around rocks near water flows such as estuaries.. usually its not a problem for me to get shrimp to go smelting. I hope you guys get some shrimp cause they usually work really well. let me know how you guys do. I might hit marina bay thanksgiving weekend not sure. so far my smelt fishing was done in september with about 6 dozen total for several days that i went out. hope to hit the smelt camps in maine this january though
  9. I usually smelt fish down in Marina bay, but haven't done so this much fall. But if anyone would like to give me the heads up on whats been going on I might be persuaded to go. Since it is my favorite fish to eat.
  10. On an unrelated subject, for those that like sweet water.. landlock salmon and trout out in western mass biggest weighing in at 3.5 lbs
  11. CASTLE ISLAND FRIDAY NIGHT NOV 3rd fished the incoming tide.. a few good bites 3 skates and a small cod. Saw a bunch of herring all along the shore good size fish. No stripers breaking in the calmness of the night. A little erie with so much bait but not activity. Saw some odd disturbances in the water that seemed to be jus a mass ove bait fish going to and fro against the current. Used 4 poles with clam on the bottom. Lost a couple fish, but nothing to go back and try again. Only did what I did since it was a lovely 60 degrees and no wind. nice walk.
