      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

The Run has begun!

6 posts in this topic

Bascially fished everywhere from Napatree Point to the West Wall over the last three days. Here is the summary:

B-ways, lots of blues some bass mixed in. Rumors of decent bass runs, but not that I saw. Got sick of blues and tried some other areas.

Back Ponds - Schoolies on 5" Storm golden mullet or 5" bunker

West Wall - Blues, Ablies, bass - abilies are hit and miss but I saw a large number taken. Bass 20-30" on 5" or 6" Storm mullet/bunker. Peanuts are in thick at times.

Watch Hill - Schoolies from beach, some boats catching lots a little off the beach. Again, Storms in the 5 or 6" range.

Napatree - Fish on both sides, few blues in and out wrecking the storms.

I didn't see any real nice fish, but the fish there are getting more and more aggressive. Lots of bursts on top and bass torpedoing across the water chasing the peanuts.

If someone wants more detail, shoot me a PM.

Where are the big bass??

Charlie my guess is they are still up North. These are the times I want to fish every day just so I am positive I won't miss anything. We need someone from Maine to tell us how it is up there. Ahhh darn any minute now............ :bluefish: :bluefish: :bluefish: :bluefish: :bluefish: :bluefish: :bluefish: :bluefish:

Maybe, but last year at this time the blues calmed down and I was pulling in 20#ers on kinda a regular basis.

They may be out there, but I haven't been able to get to them thru the blues.

Oh, BTW, when I was out on the Watch Hill beach I saw a school of bass blitzing, just out of reach.

So, naturally, I waded into the water to cast. Only problem was the waders were in the car and I was wearing sweats and sneekers.

But it was worth it.

As I'm wading into the water I realize - I'm pulling a Redbone.

Def: Pulling a Redbone: One who, in the pursuit of striped bass, will gladly wade into the water fully clothed if it means a better chance at catching said bass. To truly "Pull a Redbone" one must also have waders in the car and not be a googan. If you don't know what googan means, there is no way you can ever pull a Redbone

LOL Charlie. We are asking the same thing. Where are the big bass. We are seeing the same blitzing up here but no huge bass.

Only recently has the water tempature decreased. Remember, not to long ago (two weeks) the water was still in the 68 to 71 degree range at the Cape. It is now getting colder and I believe the fish will start returning. I hope so, because for me this has been a disappointing season. Good luck.
