      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

Alt to tube'n'worm?

3 posts in this topic

Haven't been out that many times this year but have had moderate success with the tube and worm off Swampscott and M'head. Took a skunk yesterday, and was tempted to abandon the T&W . . . but what's the next best thing? The T&W has been by far my best producer from the yak, and I decided to just keep trying different depths rather than switch. Later I talked to a guy trolling from a boat, who told me that nobody was catching anything ysterday (24th, afternoon). Any thoughts/suggestions?

It's been a very slow week for the tube.Slow for everything but steak tips i guess.Leadcore is an option and definately increases your chances in deeper water.I dont use leadcore.30 lb. power pro and an Al's tube is all I use.Idont fish deeper than 20'I manage my depth by trolling very slow and letting out more line to get deeper. I've hung the tube on the bottom in 18' of water using this method. If I'm getting that deep I dont feel I need leadcore.Alot of yakkers use it and it works I just dont see the need as yet. Most of my tubing is in relatively shallow water 5 to 20'If the fish are in 15'of water and I'm at 10 that fish is either gonna smell that worm or see my tube.I fish with the veterans alot and dont see that much if any difference in fish catches.Lefty
