      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

Clams Casino & Beach Plum Rum

4 posts in this topic

Got back from central mass a couple days ago. sharpened up my ribrake and hit the Grand Cove flats yesterday morning for three qts. of littleneck clams. Had clams casino last nite to BobG's recipe; washed down with a couple bottles of Buzzards Bay Ale and a nip or two from my first bottle of Beach Plum Rum.

The bonus was getting my local clam license for 2007 for only $3. I guess getting older has some befefits even in massachusetts.

Bill Did you make the rum or buy it? It sounds good, I would like to know how to make it.

Bob, I'm sorry I didn't see your post till today. I don't get up to this site as often as I used to.

I made it when the Beach plums were ripe in September. I used Bacardi Gold. Drained about a cup of it and then added 20 Beach Plums, each cut in half. Then, replaced as much of the rum as would fit, leaving an inch of air at the top of the bottle, resealed and let it sit on it's side till around Christmas time - rotating it every couple days. The rum that was left over was "used" at once. Each time I pour off a little for a libation, I replace it with an equal amount of new rum.

When opened in December, it was as fine a liquor as you could buy, with a definite beach plum flavor - great for sipping.
