      Surfcaster's 2016 Reboot!   09/21/2016

Howdy, folks. I know this is way overdue, and the damage is probably already done, but after weeks of working with the database I've finally wiped out all of the spam posts and topics. This was no easy task, considering there were three-quarters of a million bogus posts and nearly three hundred thousand bogus topics. Once a hacker/spammer network finds a vulnerability, they send out automated programs that basically destroy a database like this. Over the past couple weeks I've migrated all of the good data into a more current, secure platform with the hopes that we can somehow rebuild. New member registration is tightened way up, and a third-party spam monitoring service is in place. I've also invested in an awesome new gallery extension,  allowing members to create, manage, and share image galleries. Please give it a try, and let me know if there are any issues. I'm still testing and working out the bugs. Surfcaster's forums were once an amazing resource for everyone to enjoy, and we're hoping it can once again build back up. The main site (non-forums) is pretty banged up, but once the forums are complete my next task is to re-invent that as well. Spread the word. Hope to see a lot of you back! Cheers, Andrew

Hey City your right about the lurkers, typical problem with any open site like this one. One good side to it though is the website must be picking up in traffic. What ever it takes to keep the site going, if we only get one reply to every 100 then so be it. Just and FYI - a little excerpt from the Kittery Trading Post weekly report:

New Hampshire: Although there’s plenty of excitement in the freshwater news, the big news is that some keeper-sized stripers have moved into the rivers feeding on the alewife runs, according to several reports. Jason MacKenzie at Suds-n-Soda Sports says that the Lamprey River in Newmarket was just full of herring at the high tides and that some stripers to 32 inches were taken.

Jason was (still is?) a member here and has contributed in the past. If you ever what to know anything about fishing Southern NH area just give the guys a call at Suds-N-Soda in Greenland, NH. Nice selection of gear and live bait as well!

NH Dad- good point about the site picking up traffic, I thought it died a couple of times over the winter... no new posts for days sometimes.

Also very good news about Southern NH, thanks for the info!

yea lurkers suck!!!! They should be deleted if they visit and don't post anything good. If they have nothing to add we don't need them here. Even a thanks for the info or nice fish just to let us know they are there and not hidding in the bushes like a pervert.

Jason from suds has a nice little set up I paid him a visit over the winter seems like a nice guy.

I live in Salem, we should hook up and chase some striper sometime

I have been quiet all winter. But now I can offer a quick report. I been picking up schoolies up and down the Merrimack from Lawrence down to Haverhill for the last 2 weeks. Today I saw a few shad being taken by some other fisherman. I hope to have more

reports in the future.

I could hook you up with some flies if you would like a few.

We should get a little gang together and terrorize some stripers up here on the north shore. Anyone up for a little get together?

Be careful what you wish for. Most people have nothing to contribute anyway. Imagine if all 200 lurkers replied the thread would be a mile long and full of junk. Let em lurk.
